About

Chain Attraction is a puzzle-platformer game made as a class project, in which the player controls the polarity of magnets to navigate a game show stage! At the time of making the game, it was the largest game project I had led, both in terms of scope and team size. It's also published on itch.io!

My Experience with Chain Attraction

Our team logo

My most recent class project to be completed, Chain Attraction was, at the time, the largest project I had ever managed. In this puzzle-platformer game, the player assumes the role of a game show contestant task with navigating the stages with an iron ball chained to their leg! Using the show's proprietary Magnet Gun, the contestant is able to control the polarity of magnets in the environment, pulling and pushing their ball around to reach the end of each stage. Chain Attraction was made using Unity 3D.

Working as the one and only producer on the team of ten, I oversaw development of all areas (design, art, and programming,) and managed each team's timelines and workflow. As well, I facilitated interdisciplinary communication, making sure each team knew what the other disciplines were up to at all times.

As this was a class project, we had predetermined milestone dates assigned by the professor. In order to deliver builds on time for each milestone, I utilized several management techniques common in professional settings, such as an Agile workflow methodology and whole-team standups at each meeting. As such, our team was able to deliver a product that consistently exceeded the professor's expectations for each and every milestone.

Final Thoughts

At the beginning of the semester, I was a little intimidated by the size of the team. Up until then, I had never led a game-making team of more than five people. In the end though, we made a kick-ass project that I am incredibly proud of. In fact, the team as a whole was so enthusiastic about the project that we have decided to continue development outside of classes! While the game is currently published on itch.io, our goal is to eventually sell Chain Attraction on Steam!
